The new year is here, and we can hardly believe it. If you’re anything like us, you may still be processing the last couple of years and looking for a lifestyle change in 2022.

Sadly, It can be hard to make long-term fitness changes, especially when the world around you is always advertising the next quick fix. Making a long-term lifestyle change is all about eating and exercising in a way that’s sustainable. Quick, easy-to-prepare recipes with minimal ingredients can help you stay motivated and on track. Read on for information about the paleo diet and some paleo recipes with 5 ingredients or less that you can start eating today.

What is the Paleo Diet?

Before we dive into the recipes, we have to answer your first question: What’s a paleo diet, anyways? The paleo diet is a diet centered around what early humans consumed. A paleo diet typically consists of food like lean meats, fruits, vegetables, and nuts, and stays away from grains and dairy products. 

Paleo diets are a great way to lose or maintain weight and can be followed as a way to prep food in advance. For a better idea of what a day of paleo eating might look, like check out this example provided by the Mayo Clinic :

  • Breakfast. Broiled salmon and cantaloupe.
  • Lunch. Broiled lean pork loin and salad (romaine, carrot, cucumber, tomatoes, walnuts, and lemon juice dressing).
  • Dinner. Lean beef sirloin tip roast, steamed broccoli, salad (mixed greens, tomatoes, avocado, onions, almonds, and lemon juice dressing), and strawberries for dessert.
  • Snacks. An orange, carrot sticks, or celery sticks.

Roasted Asparagus With Lemon Vinaigrette

This roasted asparagus with lemon vinaigrette side dish recipe only takes about 10 minutes to make and then it’s straight to the table for you to enjoy. All of the ingredients are common, and you more than likely already have them ready to go in your pantry. Pair the citrus-flavored asparagus with a lean meat, cauliflower rice, and a zero-sugar beverage like water or an herbal tea, and you’ve got yourself a quick, easy, and healthy dinner.

Balsamic Marinated Tomatoes

If you’re looking for another manageable paleo recipe to add to your rotation, these balsamic marinated tomatoes are for you. These tomatoes can be added to a salad, served as a side dish, or eaten on their own, and only contain 3 ingredients: grape tomatoes, balsamic vinegar, and sea salt + black pepper.

Green Smoothie

Looking to start your morning on the right foot? All it takes is some coconut milk, frozen pineapple, and baby spinach. If you’re on the fence, we get it, green smoothies aren’t for everyone.
